WinPE 2.0 - what to remove

Recommended Posts

I haven't had to build a PE disk in a long time. I've been pleased to find that 2.0 is a bit easier, and most of my drivers are built in. (ie: NIC).

I want to reduce the size of the image, so I can have it load a bit faster. What can I remove?

I see a whole bunch of language packs (or so they seem) under the system32 directory...are they deletable?

yes language file are deletable as well as the language font in the various boot folders. look around cause you'll see the same fonts and language files in different folder.

Can I just delete them, or do I have to uninstall them?

i just delete them. just make sure to leave eng language files or what ever language your disk uses or your PE wont boot.

How can I remove drivers from WinPE 2.0 mounted image?

Is there any tool to remove drivers?

We can add peimg /inf=<inf file> so it will add drivers into mounted wim image but I haven't found any tool to remove drivers from mounted image.

Any pointer would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Is there any reason not to just rebuilt the image?

Given you have a set of batch- or other script-files its just a matter of minutes. Personally I like to use WinBuilder, with my own set of scripts, which I based on the process described in the WAIK help files. Simply because VistaPE does way to much with the PE image for my liking.
