Hi,I would like to share with you my short experience with this mobo:
Gigabyte GA-P43-ES3G

WinNT4 boots with latest UNIATA 0.39j2 that supports new ICH8-10 released by BW, thanks to him.

My further testing was aimed to DOS and Win98.
DOS is OK, it sees SATA drives as standard IDE on legacy ports/IRQ. Except the PATA controller
Jmicron - I had to use special driver gcdrom.sys to be able to use PATA CD/DVD drivers.
I tested that ICH10 IDE was much slower than ICH7 (15MB/s vs 35MB/s).

For Win98 I did some INF file modding (I will upload it for other testers soon) and it booted
and detected most of HW resources but there are 3 problems:
1) USB2.0 doesn't work (I got 1.1 slow speed) because of problem on USB 2.0 root hub in device manager (I use NUSB 3.3 cz)
2) HDD works in some compatability extreme slow mode and I cannot see drives in device manager.
There are SATA controller and standard dualport PCI dual fifo controller marked /!\. I messed
aroud with it but I couldn't fix it.
3) Jmicron controller is totally missing, PATA optical drives are inacessible.

Before I can do more testing the mobo has died (fall into endless restarting loop, clear cmos didn't helped, replacing cpu/ram, nothing..)
and I RMA it and changed it by another mobo with P41+ICH7 for better compatability.

Did anybody else succeed with ICH8/9/10?

did your mobo workng on ide?
i using h55 using sata(IDE mode) @ \!/ <-
& can't using usb 2.0

Using SATA Drives, that don't have Windows 9x compatable RAID Drivers, requires my SATA Patch.

The Patch is not free. You would need to order it.

Hi,
is it possible to install WIN 98SE (besides WIN7) on this ? http://www.asus.com/...42aU&templete=2
My Computer ist 12 years old (Compaq Deskpro) and I find the setup of the HTPC ION is smuggling small, has all I want (I am not a gamer and used to Intel processors and to onboard), you can have a second harddisk (one for WIN 7 ... and one for WIN 98SE ??).
I know I need rloews patch for the too large RAM. but what about the other drivers.
On the site above, it says that WIN 2000 would install (I have and know all the updates, such as sesp30b4; Kernelex 4.5 RC 1; RP965: (MDIECU634); etc
And I will have two harddisks (I have a promotional offer)
What do you think ?
Thanks for your help

Roger

The RTL8111 Network Driver uses a lot of low memory, try my RAM Limitation Patch Demo with the /M Option.
Using the Secondary SATA Channel will require my SATA Patch to be used in Native mode.
The only PCIe Video Card I have seen without the shutdown problem is the 7100GS.

This level of compatability seems to be common to a number of motherboards. I have one like it.

Sorry for late answer.

Only possible memory models for this MBO are DDRI (other names for this memory are:DDR 400, PC3200) which are working on 400 MHZ (in dual mode this is 400x2=800MHZ) and max memory is 2 GB (1GB + 1GB). It is not possible to add PCIexpress gpu card to this MBO and only possibility are PCI or AGP cards (like PointofView GeForce 6200 AGP 256MB DDR (directX 9.0) which is stil in few shops).

If GeForce 6X00 or Radeon 9X00 graphic cards with official drivers are not good enough for you can always try GeForce 7XX0 AGP or Radeon X300 - X850 AGP (if you can find them) with support for DirectX 9.0c and Shader Model 3.0. Unofficial drivers for this graphic cards are created by our forum friend and they are free for download.

It is possible to buy Radeon AGP graphic card with DirectX 10 support (example Radeon HD 4650 AGP), but I do not know official or unofficial drivers for Windows 98.

Links:

http://windows98.ic.cz/ - unofficial MBO and GPU drivers for Windows 98 (free download).
http://www.evga.com/...6+Series+Family - EVGA site with GeForce 6200 AGP and PCI graphic cards. Drivers must be taken from NVidia site.
http://www.tomshardw...0-agp,2383.html - review of Radeon HD 4650 AGP which is without Windows 98 drivers

The RTL8111 NIC, I was referring to, is the one built into the Motherboard not a separate card.
My Gigabyte MA78GM Motherboard also uses it.

Hey rloew shouldn't you be making your app freeware now? :P

W98 is nice but under no circumstances my RadeonHD 5970 is going to boot it right :D Any idea which was the last HD based GPU that works right on W98 (official or unofficial drivers matters not)

Why?

Because... W98 is pretty much dead IF problem mentioned in THIS place don't get any attention (below)

edit: on the second thought, if you do come with solution to THAT mentioned problem, i will really consider buying your softwares otherwise... hmmm (you know the answer)

@lama: Being obsolete is no reason to make software freeware. The only good reason to make software freeware, open source or whatever is it's rightful owner wishing to do so. Please do stop hijacking this thread.

Anyways, Do you have solution on how to make new graphic cards work on W98?
