oh goody, it looks like i may be able to cull some deadwood from the Internet Explorer module in auto-patcher (AP). Or may be not... that's what i want to find out.

MD, MDGx, or anyone else:

i have the following updates included in the IE module and they aren't listed as being in Component Update 1.4, so can we move any or all these to the obsolete list? Or are they not included for reasons of irrelevance, non-importance, size, [insert reason] ... thanks in advance for any info.

* q322656 - Msinfo32.exe causes an Access Denied error in Internet Explorer

- (AP does the install as MDGx suggests and replaces IEINFO5.OCX with an older version)

* q329115 - Hotfix for Certificate Validation Flaw Vulnerability

* kb824220 - Hotfix for Images Not Appearing in Web Pages in Internet Explorer

* kb870669 - Hotfix for vulnerability in ADOB Stream in Internet Explorer 6

* kb886677 - Unofficial Hotfix for DBCS Corruption in MLANG.DLL

* kb896156 - Hotfix for bug when removing an HTML element from a Web page

* HTMLHelp - Unofficial HTML Help Update (HHCTRL.OCX 5.2.3790.620)

* DX_Media - Unofficial DirectX Media Update for IE 6 sp1 (May '07)

* HTMLCert - Unofficial HTML Help Expired Security Certificate Update

Thanks for the quick update MD, your stuff is all good man. except NUSB .... which is not only good its utterly fantastic! :thumbup

MDIE6CU 1.4 posted here:

* Unofficial Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1 Component Update (MDIE6CU) 1.4 for Windows 98 SE installs all current MS IE 6.0 SP1 updates + security fixes:

http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=97816

MDIE6CU.EXE [12.4 MB, English, free]:

http://www.mdgx.com/spx/MDIE6CU.EXE

Great work, as usual. :thumbup

P.S.:

maximus-decim

If I could I ask you for a favor, could you post the updates to your files into the same forum topics that are already open, because they are all part of the "permanent" list ["stickified"]:

http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=95815

Updated to include MDIE6CU 1.4 topic.

Many thanks.

Best wishes.

These advanced options are really useful to common users?

I'm doubt.

* Q322656 - Msinfo32.exe causes an Access Denied error in Internet Explorer - (AP does the install as MDGx suggests and replaces IEINFO5.OCX with an older version):
should not be installed on 98/98 SP1/98 SE/ME or NT4 = IEINFO5.OCX is flawed on these OSes = works properly only with Windows 2000.
* Q329115 - Hotfix for Certificate Validation Flaw Vulnerability:
obsolete = replaced by unofficial CRYPTME.EXE .
* Q824220 - Hotfix for Images Not Appearing in Web Pages in Internet Explorer:
current = this IMGUTIL.DLL is the last one which works properly with IE 6.0 SP1 + all 98/ME OSes.
* Q870669 - Hotfix for vulnerability in ADOB Stream in Internet Explorer 6:
obsolete = installs as part of unofficial Q931768 (and a few older editions) IE 6.0 SP1 cumulative security fix:

http://www.mdgx.com/ietoy.htm#IEC

* Q886677 - Unofficial Hotfix for DBCS Corruption in MLANG.DLL:
current = this MLANG.DLL is the last one which works properly with IE 6.0 SP1 + all 98/ME OSes.
* Q896156 - Hotfix for bug when removing an HTML element from a Web page:
current = this MSHTMLED.DLL is the last one which works properly with IE 6.0 SP1 + all 98/ME OSes.
* HTMLHelp - Unofficial HTML Help Update (HHCTRL.OCX 5.2.3790.620):
until now this HHCTRL.OCX was the last one which worked properly with IE 6.0 SP1 + all 98/ME OSes.

But I've just updated HHUPD.EXE to include newer HHCTRL.OCX 5.2.3790.2847 (fixes a security flaw released officially only for WinXP SP2 = Q935448) = tested to work properly with IE 6.0 SP1 + all 98/ME OSes.

Already posted here:

http://www.mdgx.com/add.htm#HHU

as HHUPD.EXE [714 KB, English]:

http://www.mdgx.com/files/HHUPD.EXE

Also posted here:

http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=46581

* DX_Media - Unofficial DirectX Media Update for IE 6.0 SP1 (May 2007):
current = the files installed by unofficial DXM9X.EXE are the last ones which work properly with IE 6.0 SP1 + all 98/ME OSes.
* HTMLCert - Unofficial HTML Help Expired Security Certificate Update:
current but not that important = RUNHELP.EXE fix installs a redirecting HTML file which correctly opens HTML Help (by running "%windir%\HH.EXE %windir%\HELP\WINDOWS.CHM") by running an INF file which is compressed inside a CAB file.

Installs 2 files: RUNHELP.CAB (which contains RUNHELP.INF) + HTMLHELP.HTM (which opens RUNHELP.CAB) into %windir% .

I have tried to download this file over the last few days and I'm always greeted with the message:

Your IP-address ###.###.###.### is already downloading a file. You have to wait until it is finished.

Premium-accounts can download many files at the same time. Get your own Premium-Account now. Instant download-access!

If you are not downloading anything, you are using a proxy-server or a shared IP-address. A Premium-account solves this problem as well.

Grrrrrrr!

Wierd message while installing MDIE6CU 1.8:

This setup will only upgrade over an existing version of VM (X)

What the hell may he be talking about?

Many other update boxes were appearing and disapearing at a rapid rate, before, during and after this message was displayed...

885258

what is it? Can't find no info

Hi soporific,

885258 contains these files:

dummy.cat

dxtmsft.dll

dxtrans.dll

ieuninst.exe

ieupdate.exe

proctexe.ocx

Q885258.cat

Q885258.inf

Q885258_d.inf

Q885258_me.cat

I think the point behind MD's inclusion of 885258 is the installation of proctexe.ocx, build 6.00.2800.1471.

Edit:

Here's the M$ support article:
