imagex.exe requires some dll's to work. so does package manager. i'm not sure exactly which ones.

i though someone had posted these files in the vista update and feature packs (this topic is pinned). check it out, you might find it there.

check here for link to mytemp download. it may still work.

Use this mount your image with read write capability, be sure to alter the path & paste into your text editor a .cmd ext.

Quote

imagex /mountrw D:\Unattended\Vista\Vista2\sources\install.wim 1 D:\Unattended\Vista\Mount

Use this to commit & save etc, again alter paths as necessary.

Quote

imagex /unmount /commit D:\Unattended\Vista\Mount

If you are running XP make sure imagex.exe is in system 32 dir, or waik is installed.

The attached image shows the minimum tools reqd to do these tasks, the inf may need to be run first if using XP to build or alter files.

Let me know if you need these tools I may be able to upload somewhere?

I presume you did not read the license that comes with the AIK. The license that comes with my AIK says:

The software is licensed, not sold. This agreement only gives you some rights to use the software. Microsoft reserves all other rights. Unless applicable law gives you more rights despite this limitation, you may use the software only as expressly permitted in this agreement. In doing so, you must comply with any technical limitations in the software that only allow you to use it in certain ways. You may not
• work around any technical limitations in the software;
• reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the software, except and only to the extent that applicable law expressly permits, despite this limitation;
• make more copies of the software than specified in this agreement or allowed by applicable law, despite this limitation;
• publish the software for others to copy;
• rent, lease or lend the software;
• transfer the software or this agreement to any third party; or
• use the software for commercial software hosting services.

Even if imageex is freely available on the web - its still a MS tool that should not be redistributed. You get it by downloading the OPK /AIK from MS.

Thanks for sharing. I was in need of this yesterday and only had dialup access.
Downloading the full WAIK was not an option.

@ Paraglider: your concerns have been duely noted.

If any other MSFN users are looking for the ImageX utility separately from the WAIK,
I suggest you checkout this Imagex GUI. :thumbup
