I used vLite on Windows Vista Business x86. Now after a clean install I get:

WMI Reverse Peformance Adapter Maintenance Utility stopped working and was closed

A problem caused the application to stop working correctly. Windows will notify you if a solution is available.

I keep getting these errors for no reason at all. I am attaching the error message as well as the vLite session info.

Anyone? This problem is really bothering me and I need help to fix it. Also I think I removed something that won't let me play WMV/WMA's, I think it might be something with the error messages. Even installing the codecs won't fix it.

Windows Media Codecs
Windows Media Player

You removed these right?

your innability to play those files are most likely a side effect of that.

Alright, I will try and find a way to download the codecs but WMA/WMV isn't that important.

Although I would like to know if anyone has a solution to the WMI Reverse Performance Adapter errors I am getting.

Why not just build another disk and re-install?

As for the other issue, WMI errors, try keeping the:
Performance Counters
Reliability and Performance Monitor

I will for sure check if it's possible to bypass the dependency, thx for reporting.

I was also wondering if there was a codec package where I can download the Windows Media codecs. I really don't want to rebuild the install and reinstall my whole OS. I don't have any more CD's lying around and I don't have time to go out and buy. So I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to add the WM codecs back or a site to redownload them.

I also tried using CCCP (www.cccp-project.net) to play the WMV files but MPC is unable to render the videos, so I'm guessing I would still need the codecs even if I do have ffdshow installed.

nuhi, if you remove LOADPERF.DLL, is there any particular reason for keeping WMIADAP.EXE ?

Faulting application WMIADAP.EXE, version 6.0.6000.16386,
time stamp 0x4549af43, faulting module loadperf.dll, version 6.0.6000.16386,
time stamp 0x4549bdc9, exception code 0xc0000135, fault offset 0x00008fc7,
process id 0xdf8, application start time 0x01c7b18ac82e510b.

dexter.inside, I was just planning to keep loadperf in the next one but I'll see about the possibility to remove that with it instead, thx.

this is the associated registry data for WMIADAP, component and SxS assembly.

I believe that removing these keys will stop the error described in this topic. By removing loadperf.dll, the windows management instrumentation is left without performance monitoring anyways.
And I noticed that there is some performance gain after I removed performance counters, probably due to less background processing being done.

I believe there is more to this problem... even with loadperf.dll in place, there are problems when msiexec is installing drivers via WMI on TrustedInstaller credentials. SQL 2005 Enterprise, SQL 2008 (codename Katmai), and VMware Workstation 6 will not install. Is there some other component that removes files related to WMI ?

Edit: I will investigate this on Windows Server 2008 later today

Probably counters, try keeping that component in vLite.
