  1. It still works.
  2. under explorer 7, After I double click C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts and select notepad to open, it automatically make the C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc window active, instead of it should make the notepad window active. no problem in explorer 8. I also tested it same thing happened in a clean installation of Windows 8 Core RTM x86 in VMware. here is Windows 8 Core RTM x86.
  3. associated language packages are automatically removed when removing the main package. this is the behaviour in windows 7 RTM, and should also in windows 8.
  4. unlike Windows 7, there's no "Desktop Window Manager Session Manager" service in services.msc in Windows 8. if you delete C:\Windows\System32\dwm.exe under explorer7, you can enter desktop after reboot, but black screen after logoff and logon ie you lose the ability to logoff I don't think it's a big problem though. under explorer8, unable to enter desktop after reboot, black screen instead. it's also a black screen after switch explorer7 to explorer8. ie dwm.exe is necessary for explorer8.
  5. It is visible in Windows 7: Ah, my bad, I remembered incorrectly for Windows 7. Now I think I'm fine with the visible show desktop button under explorer7, it doesn't have to mimic the invisible show desktop button as Windows 8.
  6. You mean as in Windows 8, right? Yes it is. That show desktop button is invisible in both Windows 7 and Windows 8.
  7. under explorer7, the show desktop button at bottom right corner is visible, it should be invisible as it is in Windows 7.
  8. Tip for your easy to use, just copy these files and folders from Windows 7, to the installation dir of the program, like this: en-US\explorer.exe.mui en-US\shell32.dll.mui explorer.exe And run ex7forw8.exe to switch explorer
  9. I copy the files from tw_windows_7_ultimate_with_sp1_x64_dvd_u_677414.iso, as it is. And the start menu is showing text in Traditional Chinese.
  10. Unlike Windows 8, Windows Server 2012 won't install Desktop Experience by default, that might be the cause Windows Server 2012 directly boot into desktop. May we should uninstall Desktop Experience from Windows 8 if possible? I guess you port the Windows Server 2012 startup thingy to Windows 8? Anyway I'm looking forward to your script or tutorial for disable Windows 8 start screen after logon.
  11. here windows 8 RTM Core x64 is non-english (zh-TW), when I right ciick a shortcut to exe on desktop, it shows me "Pin to Start Menu" which sould display in my native language zh-TW here. below is my file structure, explorer.exe version 6.1.7601.17514 from Windows 7 SP1 zh-TW\explorer.exe.mui 7.reg 8.reg explorer.exe patchex7.exe Readme.txt wrp32.dll wrp64.dll
