Okay so i get this problem all the time, someone brings me there gateway, dell, Hp Toshiba ect... Laptop or pc and windows can not boot. There is nothing wrong with the hardware on the machine and a simple repair install will easily fix this problem. Of course the end user does not have the operating system installation disk because either it was thrown away or the manufacturer does not want to give it to them. So yes occasionally i do go out on the internet and try to find the windows OEM source files for a dell or whatever the brand. I am sure you all know that anytime you take this route you really have no idea what you are getting, whether it is OEM, REtail, Dell, Toshiba, 64bit x86 ect... I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to kind of decipher the installation files to know exactly what i have. With Windows XP I used to run Nlite on the Source installation point and after a few seconds it would come up and tell me what version it was what service pack it had ect.. With Vlite it does not do this is asks you to specify what version you have rather than detecting it for you. Is there any program out there that can look at the source files and let me know if it is OEM or Retail, what company it is branded to, X86 or 64, Business or Ultimate ect.... ?????
