Microsoft has thanked users of the Sidekick handset for their patience after the recent data loss incident, and promised that their content will soon be recovered.
A server error earlier this month caused the wiping of personal information and content from the devices, meaning that users, who are mostly in the US, lost many of their photos, messages and contact information.

Sony Ericsson has announced its second enterprise smartphone. The London-based mobile-phone maker introduced Wednesday the XPERIA X2, a Windows Mobile 6.5-based smartphone equipped with a QWERTY keyboard, a high-resolution touchscreen, and an 8.2-megapixel camera.
No release date or pricing was announced for the X2, which will come in black and silver, but the company said it will be available in select markets in the fourth quarter.
"It's a smartphone, which gives it immediate credibility," said Ramon Llamas, an IDC analyst. "It has a pretty cool user interface, considering it is a touchscreen. You have to give Sony Ericsson and Windows (credit)."

A new HTC patent application points to a novel way of combining capacitive touchscreens with stylus use — putting a magnetic head on the stylus.
The system, described in US Patent Application 20090167727, attempts to tackle the same problem that RIM addressed with its hybrid resistive/capacitive touchscreen design — that a resistive screen with a stylus allows for handwriting and the selection of tiny icons, but a capacitive screen is faster and more sensitive and allows for multitouch.

Want to get your hands on Microsoft’s new Zune HD? You may soon be able to pre-order the device from Amazon, and it could cost significantly less than the iPod touch. The online retailer has launched a pre-order Web page for the Zune HD, which says the 16GB model will come in black and sell for $220, and the 32GB version, in platinum, will cost $290. For the moment Amazon’s pre-order page is static, and returns an error when you try to click through and purchase the device.
