HOWTO create a fully up to date XP x64 DVD (EoL Feb 2016)

Yes, that's something I just realized when trying to "update" manually his list. There's no reason, however, to distrust your pack after all the time and people that might have used it successfully, but good thing to keep it noted.

edit: btw a question, XP x64 has DirectX 9.0c already installed in it, is it?, yet I recently saw a newer pack of DirectX 9.0c (it's called re-release) with a newer date (4/18/2011). Inside it includes also x64 cabs, should I install it?

DirectX 9.0c v8.0.7600.16385 CRC 0F024BFA

DirectX 9.0c v9.0.8112.16421 CRC 9ECD3C73 with date 4/18/2011

Clearly coming late to this party, that's what you get for going away for the weekend (also away this coming weekend, as such this month's update might be late).

As 5eraph has noted his pack includes a large number of hotfix by request patches, in the very early days of 5eraph's pack I encountered some application incompatibilities when using it, mind you it has been several years since I've had such an error.

As to whether using 5eraph's pack or publicly released hotfixes is "better", there is no clear answer (I use 5eraph's packs on my systems). The publicly released hotfixes have had more extensive testing but on the other hand the HbR patches fix (admittedly rarely encountered) problems with Windows XP x64.

The updated DirectX files in the June 2010 redist pack (re-released 18 Apr 2011) mainly include performance fixes for game use, so while there is no security issues if you don't install it, I'd still recommend you install it.

As a side note, surely I'm not the only one unimpressed by the tendency of applications and websites to adopt Windows 8 "modern UI" styling. The new versions of Avast and Comodo are rather bleah and MediaFire now has fuzzy out of focus text.

Yeyy!! 12 months to go for the definitive XP!

The metro style thing makes me puke everytime I see it. Also Google Play adopted it, Outlook.com as well. Luckily I use stylish addon since long ago with dark styles so I barely notice the change. About Comodo I had to leave the **** program, only because one problem, but a very critical one, so I opted to use Private Firewall since then.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have an x86 ISO with all the .net framework integrated as a true addons, however I think this addons are only available for x86 operating systems, will it be available any day for a x64 system? It really makes a difference

Probably not, at least I have no intention of doing so.

As to the 32-bit versions out there, I've tried OnePiece's all-in-one update packs and .Net true addons but have found them to have the odd bug, perhaps they are a tad too aggressive in their implementation.

Instead I use UserHidden's (and before that YumeYao's) updated .Net installer, but even that far more conservative option runs into problems with Windows Update continuously offering the same update.

Kurt:_Aust, thanks for your promply reply, actually, I'm going to build an XP x64 fully updated, but I have gathered the work of other person, a iso (updated until April 2013), and I 'm going to add to that iso, WMP 11, .Net framework, IE8 and Desktop search, I guess I need to clean some of your batch file to delete some batches of some stuff I don't need, on your RunOnce Folder, make some tweaks ( more IP connections, unlocked themes)

@viggen66, it is always, always, ALWAYS better to start with a true, clean, stock, unmodified MSFN iso rather than starting with "the work of other person, a iso (updated until April 2013)".

Cheers and Regards

Hi bphlpt, you are probably right, but I don't have the time for that, and the user who have made the first ISO (only critical updates, untouched, just updates), I trust on his work, mainly because I have a XP Home Edition Build on my laptop and is free of bugs, but moving forward, I have already my ISO untested, steps I have made:

1) Insert all Intel and Nforce Drivers for Sata (all the drivers from this website)

2) Integrated IE8 using 5eraph's Internet Explorer 8 Addon and Nlite

3) Integrated WMP11 using Boooggy's WMP11 slipstreamer

4) Unlocking TCP IP to 1000 connections and unlock uxtheme

5) Insert Product Key, Insert my regional keyboard and settings and adding on the "Runonce" parameter the instructions:

TimeOut /T 40

CMD /R %Source%Run1_XP-64.bat

6) Copy and edit Run1_XP-64.bat trough the Kurt_Aust's tutorial

7) Copy all addition files namely .net 3.5, .net 4, Desktop Search, Windows Update Agent, Directx, powershell to the folder Runonce

8) Make Iso

Now the only thing to remain is to burn the dvd and try the ISO

But one thing I have noticed, if I firstly integrate WMP11 using the booogyy tool and 5eraph's Internet Explorer 8 Addon with Nlite I get an error that Txtsetup.sif is missing, but the opposite I get zero errors

Another thing I have noticed is that on the regional settings I get a keyboard, which instead of having text, has a weird number like 000345, something like that, it should had something like US, UK,or Italian Keyboard, but then again, since is the first time I'm doing this, I reckon it must be like that

I'm sorry, but when you are using an ISO that is "the work of other person, a iso (updated until April 2013)", then many will consider that source "warez", ie not obtained from an authorized source, so I don't know how much help you will receive here as a result. XP is stricter in a way than Win7 in that without a Technet subscription, there is no way that I am aware of to obtain an authorized XP ISO without purchasing a genuine XP CD, or a system that includes the CD, from an authorized reseller in either case, of course. Purchasing such a CD from ebay or such is also usually OK.

Cheers and Regards

Ok bphlpt, I see your point, but thanks anyway, I'm only doing this for education purposes, not for profit gain, or to release to any ftp or public disclosure, I as yourself, defend the copyright issue, since I'm a developer and I like to defend my work

I have tried my iso, well no bugs  , but after I visited Windows Update, I needed to install some critical updates from .net framework 2 namely

# ▼. NDP20SP2-KB958481-x64.exe . 19,282,272 . Application Compatibility Update

# ▼. NDP20SP2-KB2656352-x64.exe 13,096,048 . MS11-100 - ASP.NET

# ▼. NDP20SP2-KB2729450-x64.exe 31,280,648 . MS12-074 - 4 Vulnerabilities fixed

# ▼. NDP20SP2-KB2742596-x64.exe 20,742,168 . MS13-004 - 4 Vulnerabilities fixed

# ▼. NDP20SP2-KB2789643-x64.exe 11,963,400 . MS13-015 - XAML Browser Applications (XBAPs)

However, I misinterpreted the tutorial, because I though that after installing .net framework 3.5 I didn't need any update from .net framework 2.0, like if .net 3.5 had a cumulative update that included everything that was left behind that version, well I need to rebuild my iso, to make it perfect, but if Windows Update does this job for me manually there's no big problem here.

Another Issue, on the batch file the desktop search 4 is under Folder Addon, and I skip that, I pasted on the RunOnce folder, so another manually install, no problem (requires path file fix)

So I only need to add 5 files to the Runonce Folder, and fix the path file for the desktop search, and I have a perfect XP x64 fully updated.

Just another thing as a remark, this is extremely boring and time consuming, it takes forever to install the XP on a system more than a hour and something  but on the other hand you have a perfect system fully updated on your finger tips.

These young whipper-snappers, try installing and updating XP at the end of a dial-up connection, now that's long and boring!

Kurt_Aust , thank you so much for your kind words

However, I don't know if users are aware but it seems that MS has left a bug on .net framework 4.0, making XP boot load considerably slower, when compared with its younger counterparts (Vista and forward)

We need to compile the assemblies of all .net frameworks to overpass this flaw.

http://pcmediks.blogspot.pt/2012/04/fix-for-slow-boot-up-after-installation.html

I really don't know why MS hasn't fixed this, is probably an attempt for users to install on of its newer operating systems, however since we are trying to build a perfect iso, I'm guessing if it is possible to automate this procedure, or better still, to avoid this problem.
