    • There is no such thing as a Non-Microsoft OS. Its all a lie. A computer has to have Windows to run.

I recently closed this poll because the discussion became less and less relevant with every post. Despite what you might think, I hate closing threads and told myself at the time if I closed it and I didn't get 100 PMs about closing the previous poll, I would make an updated one within a few days if no one else did. there are a few changes though the previous poll had separate votes for XP Home/Pro so i wanted to split Vista into separate choices because I personally think that XP Home and especially Vista Home Basic should have never existed but I love XP Pro/Vista Business and higher. Unfortunately, this meant combining Business and ENT Editions into the same category. Please do not ask for me to add any other OSes to the poll they simply will not fit. as this is the largest poll the MSFN board will allow.

All that said, please keep tthe discussion clean and keep Rule 7 in mind when posting:

I am from Tulsa, OK but somehow ended up in Warner, OK

Lol I had to check nearly ALL of the bottom section....

I'm cool until someone checks 'Windows Vista Home Basic Edition' in that section. No one should have to endure that mess (especially on the type of machine it usually ships on)

Windows ME is the worst operating system Microsoft ever made. Its buggy, unstable... everything was bad about it. Why did they even bother releasing it while Windows 2000 was released in the same year.

I agree ME is baddd, they bothered to release it however as a "bridge" between the consumer and business if i'm not mistaken.

lol i work at a used computer store and dealing with WinME weither it be setting up a dial-up connection, explaining why Time Warner highspeed wont work with their computer, software compatibility... list goes on...

one nice little saying i read is

. . . you might feel that the term Millennium refers to the length of time it will take to fix the glitches.

The top section should be a multiple choice. It depends too much on how you look at the question.

From a stability perspective, ME is definitely the worst. This is one OS that can crash or blue screen for no good reason at any time.

ME=Multiple Errors.

If one looks at exploitability, XP is the worst. It's bad enough that they had to make a regularly scheduled patch day for it. Hundreds of megabytes worth of patches later and there's no letup in the number of "critical vulnerabilities" being found. There's no end to the number of ways it can be compromised.

XP=eXtremely Patched.

For sheer bloat, resource wasting, unwanted, useless features, and taking control away from the user, it's Vista by far.

With MS operating systems, they've all got their unique problems. It's just a matter of which problems you can accept and work with. Given a choice between just the MS operating systems, I'll use 98lite, with several of the unofficial upgrades of course.

Actually... XP is the best ever, you need to know how to use it. Also nLite makes this OS far better than it already is. And the worst os for me is vista... why not me? well cus alot of users actually use this system, and its a new os from ms, thats why its 10x worse than me, if you buy a laptop, you may get vista and cant goto xp cus of drivers issues... also vista just seems XP with more crap in it... some features actually sound usefull and well designed but most is just bloated crap i dont need, and doesnt even work.. If you think XP is exploited alot, so is vista, or any other OS even tho the new "Security" features vista has.

Linux is good and all, it runs smooth, i like the way how you can download/install packages. But its not really supported, driver issues, not many games run on it... not sure if there is a msn/wlm client that u can use cam with in linux... that sort of stuff, Still i found some bugs in Ubuntu.

highly nLitened XP is far best os for my personal preferences, and i never ran in trouble with viruses or anything.

Well, you are free to your opinion - but it's just that. And statements like "bloated crap I don't need" and "doesn't work" seems to indicate that 1) you haven't run Vista (SP1) and are relying on heresay, 2) you ran it on an old machine and it didn't work properly, or 3) you like XP and Linux and anything designed after 2004 is "new and bloated". The Vista drivers for new machines issue is valid, but that has more to do with hardware vendors writing drivers for what they're shipping with the hardware, and not wanting to spend the money to rewrite the driver for XP.

I couldn't have said any better!
